American Standard 50K Kit vs This Bar 50K: What the Extra $5 Actually Buys

American Standard 50k Kit in Apple Ice with Its Transparent Pod and Led Display Beside This Bar 50k in Granny Apple the Two 50000 puff American Standard Devices Compared

The American Standard 50K comes in two versions, and the gap between them is not what it looks like. This Bar 50K is a sealed all-in-one at $13.99; the 50K Kit is a pod-and-battery system at $18.99. They share a battery size, a coil, a nicotine strength and a puff rating, so on a spec sheet the $5 gap looks like packaging. It is not. The Kit publishes two numbers — 23mL of e-liquid and 20W/25W for its power modes — that This Bar does not publish at all, and the two flavor lineups have zero overlap. The real question is not which is better value per puff. It is whether you are buying a device or buying a disclosure.

The short version

  • This Bar 50K — $13.99, sealed all-in-one, $0.28 per 1,000 rated puffs. Ten flavors including the only tobacco option in the brand’s range.
  • 50K Kit — $18.99, replaceable pre-filled pod on a reusable 850mAh battery, $0.38 per 1,000 rated puffs. Ten flavors, none of them shared with This Bar, none of them tobacco.
  • Identical on paper: 850mAh battery, USB-C, dual mesh coil, Boost/Eco modes, adjustable airflow, LED display, 5% (50mg/mL) nicotine salt, 50,000-puff rating.
  • The Kit’s real advantage is transparency, not hardware. It states 23mL capacity and 20W/25W. This Bar states neither, which removes the two figures you would normally use to sanity-check a puff claim.
  • The pod-refill saving is mostly theoretical. Replacement pods list at $13.99 to $14.99 — roughly the price of a complete This Bar.

The disclosure gap is the story

Puff ratings are the weakest number in the disposable category. They are produced on a smoking machine at a fixed puff duration, and no regulator audits them. The two figures that let a buyer check a rating independently are e-liquid volume and operating wattage: volume divided by puffs gives you the per-puff draw the rating assumes, and wattage tells you how fast the device will actually burn through that volume.

The 50K Kit gives you both. 23mL across 50,000 rated puffs implies roughly 0.46µL per puff — a short, efficient draw, which means the rating is achievable but only at machine-like puff lengths. Anyone pulling longer, or running Boost, gets less. That is a useful, checkable statement.

This Bar gives you neither figure. We flagged the same gap in our standalone review of This Bar 50K: two of the numbers you would normally judge a 50K by are simply absent. That is not unusual for the class — it is the norm — which is exactly why a sibling device that does publish them is worth noticing.

Read as a pair, the two products look less like good-better tiers and more like a brand running an experiment: the same hardware sold twice, once with the numbers on the box and once without, $5 apart.

Twenty flavors, zero overlap

This is the part most comparisons miss. The two devices do not share a single flavor.

The practical consequence: for a meaningful share of buyers the choice is settled before price enters it. Anyone who wants a tobacco profile has exactly one option in this brand, and it is the cheaper one. Anyone who wants the strongest cooling has one option, Winter Mint, and it is the more expensive one. The candy end skews to This Bar; the creamy, no-menthol end — Pineapple Whip, Strawberry Pineapple Coconut — exists only on the Kit.

For retailers this cuts the other way from how it usually reads. Two SKUs from one brand with no flavor cannibalization between them is unusually clean shelf economics: stocking both widens the flavor menu by ten rather than duplicating it.

The refill argument, checked

The pod format implies a saving: buy the battery once, buy pods after that. The arithmetic does not currently support it.

Standalone American Standard 50K pods list at $13.99 to $14.99 depending on the retailer as of September 2026, with multipacks bringing that to roughly $13.20 a pod. A complete This Bar — battery included — is $13.99. So the second “tank” for a Kit costs about the same as an entire second device from the same brand.

That does not make the pod design pointless. It makes it a build-quality and waste argument rather than a price one: you keep a battery, a display and an airflow ring instead of binning them every 23mL. Compare that with a device like the Foger Switch Pro 30K, where the battery is a genuine few-dollar cost and the pods carry the economics — that is what a refill saving actually looks like on a spreadsheet.

One more thing buyers should check before assuming the refill path exists: not every retailer stocks the standalone pods. Several list the complete kit only.

A note on the Texas claim

The brand’s own storefront describes the device as “Designed in Texas.” Some retail listings go considerably further — one describes it as “proudly built by Americans and assembled deep in the heart of Texas,” and at least one product review has repeated it as “assembled in Texas.”

Those are materially different claims. “Designed in” is a statement about where the product was specified; “assembled in” and “built by” are statements about manufacturing, and under the FTC’s Made-in-USA standard an unqualified US-origin claim requires that all or virtually all of the product be made domestically. We covered the enforcement backdrop in FTC warning letters over Made-in-USA vape claims; the short version is that the escalation happens at the retail listing, not at the brand, and buyers reading the retailer’s wording are not reading the manufacturer’s.

None of this bears on how the device performs. It bears on what you can reasonably say about it — which, for anyone writing product copy, is the part with consequences.

Which one to buy

Take This Bar 50K if cost per puff is the deciding factor, you want a tobacco flavor, or you simply want 50,000 rated puffs for the least money. At $0.28 per 1,000 it is among the cheaper 50K devices on the market and the cheapest way into this brand.

Take the 50K Kit if you want to know what you are buying — a stated 23mL, stated 20W and 25W modes, and a shell you can read the level through — or if you want the flavors that exist only on it. The $0.38 per 1,000 puffs is mid-pack for the class, not a premium.

Take neither if you are optimizing purely on price per puff: cheaper 50K devices exist, and we ranked the field by real cost rather than by rating in Cost per 1,000 puffs: 20 disposable vapes ranked by real price.

Where to buy

Zovapo lists both devices, which is the simplest way to compare them at one price basis: American Standard 50K Kit at $18.99 and This Bar by American Standard 50K at $13.99. The wider American Standard range sits on one page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the American Standard 50K Kit and This Bar 50K?

The Kit is a pod-and-battery system at $18.99 with a published 23mL e-liquid capacity and published Eco 20W / Boost 25W modes. This Bar is a sealed all-in-one at $13.99 from the same brand that publishes neither figure. Both use an 850mAh USB-C battery, a dual mesh coil, adjustable airflow and 5% nicotine salt, and both are rated for 50,000 puffs.

Do the two devices share any flavors?

No. The two lineups are ten flavors each with no overlap at all, which means twenty distinct flavors across the brand. Only This Bar has a tobacco option; only the Kit has Winter Mint, Hawaiian Punch, Sour Candy and Strawberry Pineapple Coconut.

Is the 50K Kit worth $5 more than This Bar?

It depends on what you are paying for. Per rated puff it is more expensive: $0.38 against $0.28 per 1,000. What the extra buys is published specifications, a fully transparent shell and a reusable battery. If those do not matter to you, This Bar delivers the same rated puff count for less.

How much are American Standard 50K replacement pods?

Standalone pods list at $13.99 to $14.99 as of September 2026, or around $13.20 each in multipacks. That is close to the price of a complete This Bar, so the refill route saves hardware and waste rather than money. Not every retailer stocks the pods separately.

Is the American Standard 50K made in the USA?

The brand’s own storefront says “Designed in Texas.” Some retail listings describe it as built or assembled in Texas, which is a stronger claim than the manufacturer makes. Like nearly all disposable vapes the hardware is manufactured overseas, and the packaging does not carry an unqualified Made-in-USA claim.

What is the difference between Boost and Eco mode?

On the 50K Kit, Eco is 20W and Boost is 25W. Eco gives a cooler draw and the longest run time; Boost gives a warmer, denser hit with more forward flavor and shorter run time. This Bar has the same two modes but does not publish the wattage for either.

Are 50,000-puff ratings accurate?

They are machine measurements taken at a fixed puff duration and are not independently audited. Treat them as a ceiling rather than an expectation. Where a maker publishes e-liquid capacity, as American Standard does for the Kit at 23mL, you can at least check what per-puff draw the rating assumes — here roughly 0.46µL, which is a short pull.

Which is better for a retailer to stock?

Both, if shelf space allows. Because the two flavor lineups do not overlap, carrying the pair widens the menu by ten flavors instead of duplicating it, and it gives a $13.99 and a $18.99 price point within one brand.

Prices and specifications checked September 2026 against the manufacturer’s storefront and US retail listings. Regular list prices are used throughout; promotional and membership prices are excluded.
